Joint Base Lewis–McChord

LEED Gold at a massive 155k sq. ft. multi-use military complex? Certainly!

It won’t be a surprise to you, but we are big fans of making sure there is an abundance of daylight in all our projects. As we worked with Garco Construction and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, on the JBLM RLSC, we prioritized natural light alongside energy efficient mechanical, electrical, and thermal insulation systems with exterior glazing—ultimately securing LEED Gold Certification.

Throughout the design-build process, we incorporated several different Kalwall products including translucent panel walls, skylights and Bi-Fold door panels. All components greatly benefit the structure through:

  • Daylighting: High efficiency glare daylighting that's most efficient for this space.
  • Functionality: Designed to fit into the Schweiss Bi-fold doors, Kalwall allows full spectrum daylighting while closed, and airflow and access when open.
  • Security: Kalwall meets Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) requirements designed to the blast criteria specified. (Did you know it is also shatterproof and can be designed to meet the requirements of UFC 4-010-01 in wall applications?)

Standing here today, we are proud to see this project earn LEED Gold Certification. Thank you to the teams at Garco Construction and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Seattle for their hard work in bringing this design to life.
