Karl Miller Center, PSU
This daylighting project is one for the books.
The Karl Miller Center, Portland State University’s School of Business, is uniquely positioned as an urban hub in the heart of the city. The building design is centered around a 5-story glass atrium that delivers natural daylight to a variety of spaces - informal meeting and study areas, gardens, classrooms, business incubators, student spaces, offices, and retail - and encourages students to gather, study, and relax.

DeaMor Associates’ monumental glass skylight system illuminates the vibrant central space deeply and efficiently, maximizing the amount of natural light and connectivity to the outdoors. Certified LEED Platinum, PSU collaborated with architects Behnisch Architekten and SRG Partnership to create a building that represents PSU’s dedication to social, economic and environmental sustainability.
Constructed by Skanska and an array of skilled trade partners, the building’s challenging structure was developed by KPFF Consulting Engineers, and its thermal performance benefits from PAE’s passive cooling design and Mayer/Reed’s thoughtful landscape.
Offering both form and function, high performance glass skylights make the space come alive - not only through the power of natural light, but by prioritizing occupant comfort and wellbeing while enhancing the building's thermal envelope.
We couldn’t be prouder of the result of the outstanding project team's collaborative efforts!
