Orohealth Hospital

At DeaMor, we love a good design challenge.

Orohealth’s new hospital wing, located in Oroville, California, called for a large, suspended glass canopy to enhance the building façade and provide protection from the elements at the patient drop-off area. They were in need of an aesthetic solution that would also meet the stringent building code requirements of the California Department of Health Care: all building glass needed to be supported on 4 sides and retained against seismic and wind loads with a cap.

The challenge: Putting the required retainer caps over the horizontal joints going across the slope would create a dam that captures dirt and ponds water on the glass.

The solution: Our DeaMor team created an innovative customized canopy system, adhering to structural requirements while still complementing the building's design. By designing a custom cap that allows water to pass through, water is able to flow freely off of the glass, avoiding the buildup of dirt and ponding.

Shoutout to our ally, RankerAMG, Inc. for the stunning installation, layout and finish work. The result is an elegant, suspended canopy that pairs durable beauty with the essential functionality of protecting occupants from harsh weather.
