Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians Admin Building

Architecture should take you on a journey. This canoe-shaped administrative facility for the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians in Arlington, Washington, does just that.
When designing this two-story administration building, we worked with our design-build team to incorporate significant tribal, individual, and geographic elements. As “People of the River”, canoes play an important part in Stillaguamish culture, which lead to their prominence in the building’s canoe shape and hand-crafted interior details, such as the carved paddle balusters and the bald eagles that watch over the occupants.

We used the timeless beauty of Kalwall to shine full-spectrum daylight throughout the building’s atrium. The stunning Kalwall skylights illuminate the earthy tones, stonework and pillars reminiscent of a tribal longhouse. Designed to unite previously scattered tribal departments, the building’s layout and daylighting offer a feeling of openness and tranquility.
